UC Davis did not renew its site license for Eudora effective July 1, 2005, because Eudora's price rose significantly. Given that there are other good email programs available for less or for free, UC Davis decided it could not justify Eurdora's expense.
From a licensing standpoint ANR personnel can continue to use the version of Eudora in place now and keep on using it forever, but a number of security vulnerabilities have been discovered in this version. The newest version, Eudora 6.2.1, fixes these vulnerabilities, but people cannot upgrade to it without renewing the license.
In order to address these security vulnerabilities, everyone should either upgrade to the newer Eudora version or migrate to another email client.
Several online lessons are available that present the current email situation and what your options are. They are on the CS website at http://anrcs.ucdavis.edu under Email, Network & Web Services. The lessons are also linked here.
